About
The Lawrence School Community is committed to providing a learning environment that promotes rigorous teaching, learning and promotes high academic expectations for all learners.
We believe that all students can achieve to a higher level of learning if the learning environment is academically challenging, safe, and nurturing. At Lawrence, we believe the learner needs to take responsibility for their learning in order for the student to academically challenge him/herself to do the best that they can do in school and in life. The school provides a learning community that promotes quality education and critical problem solving skills to all learners through a challenging and standards based district adopted curriculum.
To prepare the school and students to have high expectations for all learners, the school has a Teacher Leadership Team (TLT) that has teacher representation spanning across the grade levels. The TLT meets monthly or when needed to support teachers, students and parents. The school implements the core curriculum with fidelity and direct, explicit instruction is taught through the school day. Teachers work with small groups of students during UA time to reteach skills or to academically challenge students. The school implements a sequence of assessments for learning throughout the academic school year. Through diagnostic and regular assessment intervals students are identified for interventions to support learning acceleration in areas below grade level. To support students in meeting academic achievement goals in English Language Arts the school provides two Reading Intervention Specialists for grades K-6 and utilizes SIPPS as a supplemental reading program to support intervention/differentiation in grades K-3.
To support the school mathematics goal, the school utilize Dream Box and Flocabulary to supplement the core math instruction program. Academic Conferences are held yearly to review school, class, and individual student data to better inform decision-making. Lawrence is an AVID school where all teachers use AVID elementary strategies to support all learners. The school implements a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) system school-wide. Monthly PBIS assemblies are held to encourage students to demonstrate a Positive Attitude, Always be Respectful, make Wise Choices, and demonstrate Safety (PAWS). To support English Learners at Lawrence, the school provides daily designated English Language Development (ELD) instruction. Bilingual Paraeducators push-in to the classrooms daily. Parents are recognized as an integral part of the school community at Lawrence elementary school. School calendars of events and teacher newsletters, brochures and announcements are keeping parents informed about their child's education and school events.
